The Écurie, the converted stable at Le Fournil The Éurie at Le Fourniloccupies one wing of a traditional stone house, built in 1782 and now tastefully and sympathetically restored. The Écurie combines the rich character of its exposed stone walls and massive beams with spacious cathedral ceilings and an airy loft style. With one double bedroom, it is a perfect choiceThe Écurie at Le Fournil for couples, and is located in one of the prettiest villages in the Dordogne.

The private front door opens into the main floor living/dining room area, with chestnut floor, oriental rugs, comfortable seating, and antique pine dining table.

More modern touches are the television with satellite service, and a broadband internet connection.

The ‘tiny perfect' kitchen, while small, is extremely well equipped, featuring top of the line appliances and a broad range of kitchen equipment.

A separate door on this floor leads out to the private terrace, which has a stone table, comfortable chairs, and a gas barbecue. The ancient basswood tree provides dappled shade, making this a lovely place spot for dining or for relaxing to the sound of church bells, while enjoying the exceptional view of the hills and valleys around Carlux.

From the main floor, a custom-made mahogany staircase leads up to the mezzanine bedroom, with queen-sized bed. Two large skylights let in lots of light, and ensure that you can wake up to the song of birds from the fields behind the house.

We are on site, with our own quarters and courtyard, and while careful to respect guests’ privacy, are happy to answer questions and provide advice and assistance.

Le Fournil is not suitable for children.
Carlux
Carlux is a particularly friendly and welcoming village, built around the ruins of a twelfth century château in the hills above the nearby Dordogne River. With a bakery, grocery shop, café/restaurant and butcher a short walk from the house, croissants, a bottle of wine, a leisurely coffee, or the evening’s dinner are only a few minutes away.

In addition, various festivities throughout the year provide opportunities to participate in the life of the village – a ‘brocante’ (garage sale/antique fair) in July, followed by Bastille Day festivities and dancing, and a barbecue on the grounds of the château in September.

And of the course, don't miss the renowned Fête des Crêpes, in August, where you can enjoy some of the 7000 crêpes cooked during the weekend, enjoy the donkey races around the square, or dine with several hundred other guests on the grounds of the château.

The village is 15 minutes from Sarlat, one of France's loveliest mediaeval towns, and is superbly located for exploring the châteaux, markets, vineyards and prehistoric caves that dot the area. Swimming spots, walking and hiking trails, canoeing, golf and tennis facilities are nearby.
